Abstract
I show that the replication files of Auerbach and Gorodnichenko (2016) fail to generate the results of the paper. While the main effect of government spending shocks on the exchange rate, an appreciation, is preserved, it is quantitatively smaller and lacks statistical significance. I discuss potential reasons for this finding. I also extend the sample period and show that the higher power is insufficient to restore significance. The aim of this paper is to add to the discussion on reproducibility and replicability in economics and point out problems that can arise in this context.
